Power BI Update August 2018

In our monthly NC Power BI News series, we will provide you with first-hand information on the latest Power BI updates.
The Power BI Update August 2018 holds some new features for us in the areas of Reporting, Analytics, Modeling, Custom Visuals as well as Data Connectivity.

Reporting

There is now an option within Power BI Desktop to print reports directly to PDF by exporting them. In the Power BI Online Service, the browser’s print option can be used.

There are also adjustments to the bookmarks. Bookmarks can now be grouped together here.

Theming has been generally improved in the service. Here, configuration files that include corporate identity content such as colors, font and font size can now be imported in JSON format.

Analytics

With the new update, conditional formatting by values can be used in tables and matrix shapes.

The programming language “Python”, often used by statisticians and data scientists, can now be used within Power BI.

Furthermore, the Q&A (questions and answers) that can be applied to a data model are generally available for Power BI Desktop.

Modeling

For Measures, data categories can now be selected, i.e. dynamic URLs can be created with this, which can refer to other report pages, for example.

New statistical DAX functions are now available to us. These include:

– T.DIST
– T.DIST.RT

– T.DIST.2T
– T.INV
– T.INV.2

Custom Visuals

In the App Source there are now some new Custom Visuals available for download, developed by other partners (Bar Chart with Deviations, Scatter Plot, Line Chart, Pivot Slicer).
